Run Away With Me - Elevator Pitch
It’s a story about love and music. We start with American teenager Sam. Sam is obsessed with musicals and songwriting. She wants her life to be full of dramatic stories and love. When she meets Eugene, she thinks she finds her leading man. But, Eugene does not see her that way. Eugene sees Sam as a window into authenticity he will never have without the help of alcohol. When Sam finally expresses her true feelings (through song!), Eugene (who is a bit hungover) not only breaks her heart, but discounts music as a creative way to tell someone how you feel. During the rest of the show, we follow Eugene’s journey. His addiction takes him to the very bottom. While in treatment, he discovers a Ted Talk on music as an outlet for emotional pain that Sam has given at her university on YouTube. Eugene is inspired and taken by Sam and finds himself wanting to win her back. When he makes it all the way to playing HIS song for her, it is too late. She has moved on. But, Eugene doesn’t fall back into addiction, he falls back into music.
